Today I was walking through the parking lot toward Panera and an elderly couple, likely in their late 80, was sweetly walking arm in arm ahead of me. I walked past them with the speed of someone decades younger, but turned to look back as I got to the restaurant doors. The man was helping his wife as she struggled to step up the curb. I waited there and held the door for them, and as they gratefully crossed the threshold the man smiled and said to me \\u0022don\\u0027t get old.\\u0022 While I waited in line, I could hear the couple, sitting at a nearby table, deciding on what they were going to share for lunch. The man came up behind me in line, and I insisted he go ahead, telling him that he had come through the doors first, so he should order first. He took his one bowl of soup and one piece of coffee cake back to the table where his wife was waiting. I ordered my lunch and a bag of chocolate chip cookies for the couple. On my way out, I stopped by their table to deliver the sweets. I wished them a happy holidays, and told the man that, as my grandfather used to say, getting old was definitely better than the alternative...especially if you\\u0027re fortunate enough to get old with someone so lovely. Never been west, never sky dived but I wanted a good solo trip of being me and new experiences. The beginning of my trip was frustrating from losing my bags and being anxious of jumping out of a perfectly good plane in a new area all by myself. I randomly found myself in I guess what you would say as a hole in the wall place maybe for California or in that area but I always keep my phone away to take everything in and not miss a second wherever I am and it aloud me to meet my absolute favorite couple. They were helping this lady get an Uber after she had a long night but I watched the guy, Jim, make sure she was okay while also continuously checking on his woman that she was okay and felt comfortable. I admired them so much from afar and I felt like I had to say something before I left. While introvert, over thinking me was like this is so awkward but also being a couple wines in and telling myself you live on the east coast that you have nothing to lose and if they think you are weird you can just go home. I walked straight up to them and just verbalized how amazing I thought they were and during some parts I was speechless but I knew I needed to meet them. Instead of leaving I talked to them longer and I lost my boundaries, which is scary for me. But I really instantly saw them as family. I found out that they are close to my parents age but I found myself seeing them as best friends, to tell all my secrets to, to just be me and they still stayed around and made me feel loved and at home. I normally freak out when I get too comfortable and am myself out of fear of people rejecting me and not accepting me for me. This couple took me right in and on the last night Dawn gave me this stone. So I\u2019m sure she always kept it with her as I\u2019ll always keep it with me.
